Kevin Sommerfeldt

Growing up in the Okanagan, I lived a very active lifestyle. My passion for manual therapy developed through my own struggles with sports injuries. If not for the help of various health care providers, including chiropractic, I would not have been able to continue with the sports I love.

I began my journey as a chiropractor with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Victoria. I continued my education at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College where I was awarded my degree as a Doctor of Chiropractic with Summa Cum Laude and Clinic Honours. In addition, I became certified as an Active Release Technique provider during my chiropractic studies.

I follow an evidence-based, patient-centered approach to care and believe that chiropractic is an excellent first line intervention for conditions of the joints, muscles, and nerves. For me, it is important to take the time to educate patients to understand their conditions. I enjoy treating a wide range of conditions including, sports injuries, repetitive strain and over-use injuries, chronic pain, and everyday aches and pains. It is also important for me to encourage patients to take an active role in their own health through rehabilitation techniques and promotion of physical activity. A typical treatment session can include adjustments of the spine and extremities, Active Release Technique and other soft-tissue techniques, vibration therapy, rehabilitative exercises, and lifestyle advice.

I enjoy working with an active population who strive for optimal health and wellness. It is extremely rewarding for me to improve the physical ability and quality of life of my patients.

I truly believe in maintaining an active lifestyle and love what the West Coast has to offer. When not at work, I can usually be found outdoors or playing my favourite sports, such as rugby and cricket.  I am very excited to be working with the Atlas Health Therapy team to provide the best integrative patient care possible.
